The Creative Process
From blank canvas to a wearable masterpiece. This is how each one-of-one piece comes into existence—not as a manufactured product, but as a living artwork shaped by instinct, materials, and the unique energy of each commission.
Four Stages of Transformation
THE CANVAS
The hat establishes the physical and architectural foundation—its shape, crown weight, brim curvature, and material baseline.
The hat is not an afterthought—it is the architectural foundation. Crown height, brim width, material weight, and structural integrity all determine what the composition can become. Igmar reads the canvas before she touches it, understanding what the form wants to carry.
THE INSTINCT
Color, raw texture, personality, and composition guide the creative direction. No two pieces start with the same vision.
This stage is not planned—it is felt. A color demands attention. A texture refuses to be ignored. The personality of the future wearer, if known, enters the conversation. No two pieces begin with the same instinct, which is why no two pieces end in the same place.
THE TRANSFORMATION
Unexpected textiles, repurposed jewelry, filigree chains, raw fibers, metallic appliques, and hand-painted elements are fused into a multi-layered artwork.
This is the longest and most physically intensive stage. Materials are deconstructed, repositioned, layered, removed, re-added. Chains are strung. Jewelry is integrated. Paint is applied and sometimes scraped away. The composition grows organically, and the piece begins to speak.
THE ARTWORK
A singular, unrepeatable statement piece emerges—signed, finished, and ready to be worn.
The finished piece is examined, refined, and signed. What began as a blank hat is now a sculptural wearable artwork—unrepeatable, personal, and ready to be carried into the world by the person it was made for.

No Two Pieces Follow the Same Path
While every artwork shares the four creative principles—canvas, instinct, transformation, artwork—the specific path each piece takes is never identical. The available materials on a given day influence the direction. The personality of the wearer, if known, shifts the composition. The energy of the moment changes what colors speak loudest. Igmar's instinct is the compass.
This is why Igmar does not produce collections, editions, or series. Each piece is a singular creative event. The process is a framework, not a formula. The framework ensures quality and intention; the uniqueness comes from the fact that Igmar never starts from the same place twice.
For commissioned pieces, this means your artwork will not look like anything in the gallery. It will be informed by your vision, your colors, and your story—and it will be shaped by the materials and instincts present at the moment of creation. That is what makes it one-of-one.

About the Process
Common questions about how Igmar creates wearable art and what to expect during a commission.
Each piece is created individually through an intensive studio process. Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the design, material sourcing, and the artist's creative schedule. Estimated delivery is discussed during the commission consultation.
The commission process includes a vision-definition stage where you and Igmar align on concept, colors, and direction. Once the creative direction is established, Igmar works intuitively through the transformation, which is part of what makes each piece unique.
Yes. If you have meaningful materials, jewelry, textiles, or objects you would like incorporated into your piece, share them during the consultation. Igmar can often integrate personal elements into the composition.
The commission process is collaborative from the start. Igmar works closely with you to define the vision before creating, which minimizes the risk of disappointment. Because each piece is a one-of-one handmade artwork, it cannot be mass-reproduced or easily returned.
No. While the creative principles—canvas, instinct, transformation, artwork—guide every piece, the specific materials, techniques, and sequence vary. Instinct and available materials shape each creation, making every process unique.
For commissioned pieces, Igmar can share select progress moments via WhatsApp. This is discussed and agreed upon during the commission consultation.
